What is Asset Auto Update?

Asset Auto Update keeps asset records in Setyl up to date by automatically syncing changes from connected integrations, including MDMs, RMMs, and other detection sources.

How does Asset Auto Update work?

When Asset Auto Update is enabled, Setyl will:

  • Automatically update fields for existing assets after an integration sync
  • Update fields based on your integration priority (see How do I manage multiple integrations? below)

Asset Auto Update is enabled by default for all integrations.

This setting is account-wide and cannot be turned on or off for individual integrations. If you disable it, auto-updates will stop for all asset detection integrations across your organization.

How often does Asset Auto Update occur?

Asset Auto Update runs each time an integration syncs. Each integration has its own schedule, and most sync every 1 to 7 days. To check the schedule for a particular integration, see its integration guide.

You can also trigger a manual sync at any time from the Integrations or Assets section. See how to trigger a manual sync.

Which fields are auto-updated?

Depending on the integration, Setyl can automatically update these fields:

  • Computer Name
  • Assignee
  • Operating System
  • RAM
  • CPU
  • Motherboard
  • Graphics Card
  • Storage Size
  • MAC Address
  • IP Address
  • IMEI 1
  • Phone Number
  • Last Seen
  • Asset ID (needs Enable Asset ID Auto-Update)
  • Purchase Order No (needs Enable Purchase Order Information Auto-Update)

Not every integration provides every field, and some fields can't be auto-updated for some integrations. To see which fields an integration syncs, check its integration guide.

Which assets have their assignee updated?

Setyl only updates an Asset's assignee when the Asset's status is one you've ticked under Only update Asset assignee when Asset status is one of the following:. You'll find this in Settings > Company Settings > Data Mapping, under Auto-Update.

Leave statuses such as Storage and In Repair unticked if you don't want devices reassigned to whoever the MDM shows while they're on the shelf or away for repair.

Why is the Person field being updated when I can't see the person listed in the API data response?

Setyl's asset auto update can automatically update the assignee of an asset, such as a laptop, based on the assigned user within a connected Asset Data Source (e.g. MDM). The assignee is usually also displayed within the API response (visible using the 'eye' icon). Sometimes it isn't displayed because of the way Setyl queries each API endpoint: some endpoints are person-specific, so any response from them won't contain user data.

Why hasn't an asset updated?

  • Its status is excluded. Check the statuses ticked under Only update Asset assignee when Asset status is one of the following: in Settings > Company Settings > Data Mapping.
  • It isn't matched to that source. Open the Asset and check the Asset Sources tab.
  • A higher-priority integration holds a different value. See How do I manage multiple integrations? below.
  • The device was deleted from your MDM. Setyl gets no more data for it, so it won't be unassigned automatically. Update the Asset yourself.
  • The next sync hasn't run yet. Most integrations sync every 1 to 7 days, so trigger a manual sync if you need it sooner.

How to enable or disable Asset Auto Update

  1. Go to Settings > Company Settings > Data Mapping.
  2. Under Auto-Update, turn Enable Asset Auto-Update on or off.
  3. Changes are saved automatically.

In the same section you can also turn on Enable Asset ID Auto-Update and Enable Purchase Order Information Auto-Update. These keep Asset IDs and purchase order details updated from your asset sources.

When Asset Auto-Update is disabled, Setyl will still list newly detected assets from integrations but won't automatically update fields for assets that have already been created.

When should you disable Asset Auto Update?

You may want to disable Asset Auto Update if:

  • You manage some asset details manually in Setyl and don't want them overwritten.
  • The data from your integration is incomplete or inconsistent.
  • You want to control updates through manual workflows instead of automatic syncing.

How do I manage multiple integrations?

If you've connected more than one asset detection integration (e.g. Intune, Jamf, Addigy), Setyl uses integration priority to decide which source is used when multiple integrations provide data for the same field.

  • The highest-priority integration is treated as the source of truth when multiple integrations provide data for the same field.
  • Lower-priority integrations will still detect assets and can populate empty fields, but they won't overwrite data when there is a conflict with a higher-priority integration.

How to set integration priority

  1. Go to Settings > Company Settings > Data Mapping.
  2. Scroll to Integration Priority & Asset Auto-Create.
  3. Use the up and down arrows beside each integration to set the order. The integration at the top has the highest priority.
