# Can I delete records in Setyl?

No. Records in Setyl can't be permanently deleted, but you can archive them. This applies to every record type, including Assets, People, Locations, Departments and Legal Entities.

**Why can't I delete a record?**

Setyl keeps a full history of every record so your data stays accurate for:

- **Reporting:** past assignments, costs and changes still count in your reports.
- **Compliance and audits:** you can always show who had what, and when.
- **Activity history:** Activity Logs stay complete, even for People who have left or Assets you've disposed of.

**What happens when I archive a record?**

Archiving removes the record from your active lists, but it stays in **Settings \> Archived Records**. You can reinstate it at any time. See [How do I see or reinstate archived records in Setyl?](https://help.setyl.com/how-do-i-see-archived-records-in-setyl?hsLang=en)
