# How do I use the Setyl API?

## Get API access, create a key, and find the developer documentation.

The Setyl API lets you read and update your Setyl data from your own scripts and tools, for example to sync Assets with another system.

### Which plans include the API?

Full API access is included in the **Advanced** and **Advanced Managed** plans. On the **Complete** plan, API keys can only be used for support ticket integrations, such as Jira or Zendesk.

### Create an API key

You need the **Owner** role.

1. Go to **Settings \> Company Settings \> API Service**.
2. Copy your **Consumer ID**.
3. Click **Generate API Key**, then copy the key straight away. You won't be able to see it again.

You can delete a key and generate a new one at any time.

If you're on the Advanced or Advanced Managed plan and can't see **API Service**, email [hello@setyl.com](mailto:hello@setyl.com) and we'll turn it on.

### Making requests

Send both of these headers with every request:

Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY
X-Setyl-Consumer-ID: YOUR_CONSUMER_ID
```

Requests go to `https://app.setyl.com/api/v1/`. Make API calls from a server, not from a browser, so your key isn't exposed.

### Limits

You can make up to 50 requests per minute from each IP address, and 500 requests per minute in total. If you go over, you'll get an HTTP 429 response. Wait for the time given in the `RateLimit-Reset` header, then try again.

### Pagination

Long lists are split into pages. If a response includes a `cursor`, send it with your next request to get the next page. An empty cursor means you've reached the last page.
