[HR & Identity](https://help.setyl.com/integrations?hsLang=en#hr-identity) # Microsoft 365 integration guide Connecting Microsoft 365 keeps Setyl's people list up to date automatically. It can also import your organization structure, discover the apps your team signs into with Microsoft, and bring in devices from Intune and Autopilot. **What Setyl syncs** - **People:** first and last name, email, profile photo, job title, join and leave dates, phone number, address, employee ID, department, location, legal entity and manager. - **Organization structure (optional):** departments, locations and legal entities, built from each person's profile. Setyl links people to matching existing records and creates any that don't exist yet. - **Apps:** apps and services employees sign in to with their Microsoft work account (Microsoft Entra ID SSO). - **Devices:** devices in Microsoft Intune and Autopilot, including model, serial number, operating system and assigned user. These update matching Assets or create new ones. Note: Microsoft Entra shows the Join Date field in its interface but hides the Leave Date field by default. It can still be set through an integration or a PowerShell script. See [Microsoft's help article on the Leave Date field](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/1136016/how-do-i-see-and-edit-employee-leave-date-time-att). **Before you start: who can connect it?** You need the **Global Administrator** role in Microsoft Entra ID. A quick check is whether you can open admin.microsoft.com, though some organizations restrict access further. You only need Global Administrator for the first connection. Once the first sync has run, you can downgrade the connecting account to **Global Reader** and the integration keeps working. If you're not a Global Administrator: 1. In Setyl, click **+ \> Add Person** and add someone who is. 2. Set their role to **Owner**. 3. They can then sign in to Setyl with Microsoft and connect the integration. **How to connect Microsoft 365** 1. Go to **Settings \> Integrations**. 2. Under **Core Integrations**, find **Microsoft** and click **Connect**. 3. Sign in with Microsoft, tick **Consent on behalf of your organization**, then click **Accept**. 4. On the mapping screen, choose which information to sync into Setyl. 5. Finish the setup. The sync then runs in the background. **Keep it connected.** The integration only works while it stays connected. The person who connected it should keep their Setyl access in case it ever needs reconnecting. **What happens after you connect** Setyl stays in sync through real-time updates and regular syncs: - **New users** in Microsoft are added to Setyl with your default status for new people. - **Profile changes**, such as job title or photo, are synced. - **Removed or disabled users** move to **Offboarding**, unless they're already archived. You can change these defaults under **Settings \> Company Settings \> General**. - **New apps** that someone signs into with Microsoft are detected in Setyl. If someone was disabled by mistake, see [Reactivating or unsuspending a user in Google or Microsoft](https://help.setyl.com/reactivating/unsuspending-a-user-in-google-or-microsoft?hsLang=en). **Other Microsoft connections** - **Microsoft (License Intelligence):** syncs all your Microsoft 365 licenses, with total and assigned seats. You'll find it under **Software Licenses, Apps Discovery**. - **Microsoft Intune & Autopilot:** brings device and MDM information into Setyl. It's part of the same Microsoft connection, shown as its own tile under **Asset Detection Sources**. - **Microsoft Entra ID (HR):** imports people data from Entra ID as an HR source. You'll find it under **HR**. **Troubleshooting** - **Setyl still shows Microsoft as disconnected, or "Access Denied".** Go to **Settings \> Integrations**, disconnect Microsoft completely, then connect it again. Make sure you tick **Consent on behalf of your organization**. The person who approves it in Microsoft doesn't have to be the person signed in to Setyl. - **The integration disconnected on its own.** If the sessions of the Microsoft account that connected it are revoked (for example, when that person leaves or their sign-ins are reset), the integration disconnects. Reconnect it with an account that will stay in place. - **Devices, sign-in data or apps are missing.** - The connecting account needs an Intune license for device details to sync. - Your tenant needs at least one Microsoft Entra ID P1, E3 or E5 license for sign-in data and app discovery. - The connecting account must keep at least the **Global Reader** role. If its role is removed, the sync stops. - Once that's fixed, disconnect and reconnect. - **A device is in Intune but not in All Assets.** New devices wait in **Assets \> All Assets \> To Review** until they're linked to an existing asset or created as a new one. Devices without a serial number, often Autopilot records, are in **To Review \> No serial number**. To create assets automatically, turn on auto-create under **Settings \> Company Settings \> Data Mapping**. See [What are MDM integrations?](https://help.setyl.com/what-are-mdm-integrations?hsLang=en) - **Changes in Intune aren't showing yet.** Setyl resyncs Intune device data automatically and regularly, from two sources: company-owned devices and user devices. To sync sooner, go to **Settings \> Integrations**, click **…** next to Microsoft and choose **Manual sync**. - **Can Setyl remove someone's access in Microsoft?** No. The connection is read-only.
