What are asset discovery integrations (MDM, RMM and other asset sources) and how do they work?
Asset discovery integrations connect Setyl to the tools that already know about your organization's devices, so you can keep an accurate, up-to-date asset register without manual data entry. These include MDM (Mobile Device Management, also called endpoint management), RMM (Remote Monitoring and Management), cybersecurity platforms, resellers and other asset sources.
Why connect your asset sources?
Once connected, Setyl keeps syncing with your asset sources, so your register stays up to date. You can connect several sources at the same time. Setyl pulls in each device's key details, such as serial number, model, operating system, assigned user and installed software, depending on what each source provides.
Which asset sources does Setyl connect to?
Setyl connects to more than 25 MDM, RMM and other asset sources, including Microsoft Intune, Jamf, Iru (Kandji), Google Endpoint Management, Apple Business Manager, NinjaOne, CrowdStrike and Lansweeper. See the Asset discovery section on our Integrations page for the full list. If yours isn't listed, contact us on Live Chat or at hello@setyl.com.
Where do detected Assets appear?
-
Go to Assets > All Assets.
-
Select the To Review tab.
To Review has four lists:
-
Detected: new devices found by your asset sources that aren't in your register yet.
-
Linked: devices matched to an Asset in Setyl.
-
Ignored: devices you've chosen not to track.
-
No Serial Number: devices that can't be matched automatically because they have no serial number. These are often Autopilot or pre-enrolment records.
Only Administrators (Owners, Managers and Supervisors) can see To Review.
What should I do with detected Assets?
For each device in Detected, either:
-
Click Link or Create to link it to an existing Asset or create a new one, or
-
Click Ignore to move it to the Ignored list. You can restore it later if needed.
Click the eye icon to see all the data Setyl received for that device.
Add new devices automatically (Asset Auto-Create)
Instead of reviewing each new device in To Review, you can have Setyl add devices from an asset source straight to your register.
-
Go to Assets > All Assets and click Configure Asset Auto-Creation, or go to Settings > Company Settings > Data Mapping and scroll to Integration Priority & Asset Auto-Create.
-
For each integration, choose:
-
-
On: auto-create all Assets from this source.
-
On (for Company-Owned Assets): auto-create company-owned Assets only and review the rest manually. This option is available for some sources, such as Jamf, Microsoft Intune & Autopilot and Google Endpoint.
-
Off: review and create Assets manually from To Review.
-
Once auto-create is on for a source, new devices from it skip To Review and go straight into All Assets. Auto-create may be turned off on trial accounts. If you can't change it, contact us and we'll switch it on.
If more than one source reports the same device, Setyl uses the source with the highest priority. See How do I choose which integration Setyl uses for People and Asset data (Integration Priority)?
Setyl automatically matches detected devices to existing Assets by serial number. To see which sources an Asset has been matched to, open the Asset and select the Asset Sources tab.
What happens when a device is removed from my asset source?
Setyl stops receiving data for it. If it hadn't been added to your register yet, it drops out of To Review after the next sync. If it's already an Asset, Setyl doesn't unassign or archive it automatically, because the source no longer sends anything about it. Update the Asset yourself, for example by changing its status or archiving it.
