JumpCloud Integration Guide

Connect JumpCloud to Setyl to import your devices, people, groups and apps.

Setyl integrates with JumpCloud so you can keep an up-to-date inventory of your devices and people, and automatically assign devices to the right person. This guide explains how to connect JumpCloud, what's synced, and how to connect a multi-tenant JumpCloud account.

How the JumpCloud integration works

Once connected, Setyl discovers the devices in JumpCloud and lets you import them as Assets. Assets imported from JumpCloud keep updating automatically, so your records stay accurate without manual updates.

The same connection also brings in:

  • People: users from JumpCloud are added to Setyl and kept up to date.
  • Groups: your JumpCloud groups are imported, so you can see each person's groups in Setyl and use them to organize people.
  • Apps: apps that people sign in to through JumpCloud are detected in Setyl.

What device data is synced

Setyl syncs and keeps these fields up to date:

  • Name
  • Manufacturer
  • Model
  • Operating System
  • Serial Number
  • RAM
  • Storage Size
  • IP Address

Setyl also assigns each device to the person it's assigned to in JumpCloud (Automatic Asset Assignment).

These fields are maintained automatically, so any changes you make to them manually in Setyl will be replaced on the next sync. To control which source is used when you have more than one, see What is Asset Auto Update?

Before you start

You need:

  • Administrator access to the JumpCloud Admin Console, with permission to create an API key. We recommend creating the key from a service account rather than a personal account, so the connection keeps working if someone leaves.
  • The Owner role in Setyl.

Connect JumpCloud to Setyl

  1. In JumpCloud, sign in to the Admin Console and generate a new API Key.
  2. In Setyl, go to Settings > Integrations.
  3. Find JumpCloud and click Connect.
  4. Paste the key into API Key.
  5. If you use a multi-tenant JumpCloud account, also enter the Organization ID (see below).
  6. Click to save and connect.

It may take a few minutes for data to appear after you connect. New devices appear in Assets > All Assets > To Review, unless you've turned on auto-create. See What are MDM integrations?

Multi-tenant JumpCloud accounts

Each Setyl account connects to one JumpCloud organization. If you manage several organizations in JumpCloud, connect the one that belongs to this Setyl account using its Organization ID:

  1. Sign in to the JumpCloud Admin Console. As a multi-tenant admin, you'll be taken to the Multi-Tenant Admin Portal.
  2. From the main navigation, select the organization you want to connect.
  3. In that organization's Admin Console, go to Settings.
  4. Copy the Organization ID, shown below the organization's contact information.
  5. Enter it in the Organization ID field when you connect in Setyl.

Trigger a manual sync

  1. Go to Settings > Integrations.
  2. Find JumpCloud and click the ⋮ menu.
  3. Select Manual Re-Sync.

Troubleshooting

  • The connection fails: check the API key, and the Organization ID if you're multi-tenant. Create a new key and reconnect if needed.
  • Devices are detected but not in All Assets: check Assets > All Assets > To Review, or turn on auto-create.
  • A device isn't assigned to anyone: Setyl uses the user the device is assigned to in JumpCloud. If no user is assigned there, the Asset stays unassigned.
